Frequently Asked Questions

What is in Beard Oil and Balm?

Beard Oil by The Beardist is a blend of natural base oils and each blend has a different mixture of natural essential oils added for scent and other benefits.

The oils we use are Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil.

Our Beard Balm has the same oils plus natural Shea and Cocoa butters as well as Coconut Oil.

Ingredients

Jojoba Oil this oil is thicker than most oils because it is actually a liquid plant wax. Jojoba oil is extremely close to our skin’s natural oil that we wash away when bathing. Jojoba oil helps our Beard oil absorb into your skin and hair rapidly.

Argan Oil is advocated as moisturising oil, against acne and flaking of the skin, as well as for ‘nourishing’ the hair. This oil has also many medicinal uses against rheumatism and the healing of burns. Externally, Argan oil is used for hair to fortify and in the treatment of wrinkled or scaly dry skin.

Grapeseed Oilthis oil contains high levels of Vitamin E, which helps strengthen your beard hair. Grapeseed oil is also very moisturising.

Avocado Oilthis oil is an excellent source of Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, and E. It is especially good for helping sensitive skin. This oil is what helps Beard Oil relieve beard itch and “beardruff”.

Sweet Almond Oil this oil is also a great source of Vitamin E, D as well as calcium, potassium, and magnesium. It is commonly used as a massage oil because it acts as a natural muscle pain reliever. It is also used to treat split ends and reduce frizzy hair, making it a perfect part of our blend.

Shea Butter like the oils, Shea Butter is also rich in vitamins and minerals. It helps with dry, itchy, flaky skin. It also is useful in cold weather to relieve chapped skin and wind burn.

Cocoa Butter helps reduce hair breakage and increases the manageability of your beard. This is one of the ingredients that really helps our beard balm make your beard neat and tidy. It also coats the follicles which adds volume.

How Much Do I Use?

The amount of beard product needed isn’t an exact science – rather, it depends on the length and thickness of your beard.

Whilst you’ll find the perfect amount through trial and error, a good rule of thumb is a small puddle in the palm of your hand for beard oil and a fingertip-sized blob for beard balm.

How Do I Put This Stuff On?

After your morning shower/wash, apply your Oil/Balm.

While it’s great for emergencies, regular application at the beginning of the day is going to give you the right look from the off.

  1. Pour 2 drops of beard oil in your palm or a dollop of balm with your fingertip.
  2. Spread it on both palms and between your fingers.
  3. Apply evenly throughout your beard and massage into your skin.
  4. Comb your beard.
  5. Walk straight.

When Do I Use Which?

Beard Oil is absorbed easier by your skin to minimise beard itch and dandruff. Beard Balm, meanwhile, provides more and longer lasting control through the addition of natural butters.
The Beardist suggests both for a flawless beard regime.
